Biographie

Die deutsche Mezzosopranistin Kristina Stanek hat sich mit intensiver Bühnenpräsenz sowie großer musikalischer und darstellerischer Ausdruckskraft als vielseitige Interpretin etabliert, insbesondere im Wagnerfach. In der Spielzeit 2026/27 debütiert sie an der English National Opera in London in der Titelrolle von Kaija Saariahos ADRIANA MATER. Bei den Tiroler Festspielen Erl singt sie die Brangäne in Johannes Eraths Neuproduktion von Wagners TRISTAN UND ISOLDE unter der Leitung von Asher Fisch. An der Deutschen Oper Berlin, deren Ensemble sie angehört, ist sie in der Titelpartie von Carmen, als Preziosilla in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, als Fenena in NABUCCO und als Rätselstimmung in ANTIKRIST zu erleben. Außerdem interpretiert sie Wagners WESENDONCK-LIEDER mit dem Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin unter Michele Spotti.

Zu den Höhepunkten der Spielzeit 2025/26 zählten ihr Debüt als Charlotte in Christof Loys Produktion von Massenets WERTHER am Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona sowie die Rolle der Bampi in der Uraufführung von Olga Neuwirths MONSTER’S PARADISE am Opernhaus Zürich und an der Staatsoper Hamburg in der Inszenierung von Tobias Kratzer. An der Staatsoper Berlin sang sie erneut die Zweite Norn in GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG unter Christian Thielemann.

Mit zwei bedeutenden Wagner-Debüts feierte Kristina Stanek in der Spielzeit 2024/25 große Erfolge: als Kundry in PARSIFAL bei der Eröffnungspremiere des Glyndebourne Festivals 2025 (Regie: Jetske Mijnssen / Musikalische Leitung: Robin Ticciati), sowie als Brangäne in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE am Grand Théâtre de Genève unter Marc Albrecht in einer Neuinszenierung von Michael Thalheimer. Weitere Höhepunkte der Saison waren ihr Debüt als Federica (LUISA MILLER) und die Partie der Azucena (IL TROVATORE) an der Staatsoper Hamburg.

In der Spielzeit 2023/24 gab sie ihr Hausdebüt als Carmen an der Staatsoper Stuttgart unter der musikalischen Leitung von Ariane Matiakh und sang zudem in zwei Neuproduktionen von Verdis IL TROVATORE: mit ihrem Rollendebüt als Azucena an der Staatsoper Hamburg und später erneut als Azucena an der Staatsoper Stuttgart unter Antonello Manacorda. Außerdem kehrte sie als 2. Norn an die Staatsoper Unter den Linden zurück - diesmal unter Philippe Jordan in DER RING DES NIBELUNGEN inszeniert von Dmitry Tcherniakov.

Von 2020/21 bis 2025/26 war Kristina Stanek Ensemblemitglied der Staatsoper Hamburg. Zuvor war sie im Ensemble des Theater Basel, Staatstheater Karlsruhe und Theater Trier engagiert. Ihr breit gefächertes Repertoire umfasst Partien wie Kundry (PARSIFAL), Brangäne (TRISTAN UND ISOLDE), Prinzessin Eboli (DON CARLOS), Azucena (IL TROVATORE), Carmen (CARMEN), 2. Norn (GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG), Concepción (L’HEURE ESPAGNOLE), Maddalena (RIGOLETTO), Prinz Orlofsky (DIE FLEDERMAUS), Suzuki (MADAMA BUTTERFLY) sowie zeitgenössische Rollen wie Soprano 4 in Nonos AL GRAN SOLE CARICO D’AMORE, Mary Shelley in Michael Werthmüllers DIODATI.UNENDLICH und Veronica Quaife in Howard Shores THE FLY.

Gastengagements führten sie u. a. an die Semperoper Dresden, die Staatsoper Unter den Linden, die Staatsoper Stuttgart, zur Ruhrtriennale, in den Kulturpalast Dresden und zum Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

Kristina Stanek arbeitete mit Dirigenten wie Christian Thielemann, Kent Nagano, Marco Armiliato, Philippe Jordan, Marek Janowski, Ivor Bolton, Antonello Manacorda, Marc Albrecht, Giampaolo Bisanti, Axel Kober, Jonathan Darlington, Erik Nielsen, Titus Engel, Christopher Moulds, Gianluca Capuano, David Parry, Christian Curnyn, Michele Spotti, Alexander Joel, Thomas Guggeis und Robin Ticciati sowie mit Regisseur:innen wie Hans Neuenfels, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Lydia Steier, Michael Thalheimer, Yuval Sharon, David Bösch, Elisabeth Stöppler, Stephan Kimmig, Barbara Frey, Sebastian Baumgarten, Vasily Barkhatov, Daniel Kramer, Vincent Huguet und Jetske Mijnssen zusammen.

2018 erschien bei SONY Classical eine CD mit Kristina Stanek als Solistin in Beethovens 9. SINFONIE mit der Dresdner Philharmonie unter Michael Sanderling.

2022 wurde sie von der Fachzeitschrift OPERNWELT für ihre Darbietung der Prinzessin Eboli (DON CARLOS) am Theater Basel als Sängerin des Jahres nominiert.

The German mezzo-soprano Kristina Stanek has established herself as a versatile interpreter, known for her intense stage presence and great musical and dramatic expressiveness, particularly in the Wagner repertoire. In the 2026/27 season, she makes her debut at English National Opera in London in the title role of Kaija Saariaho’s ADRIANA MATER. At the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, she sings Brangäne in Johannes Erath’s new production of Wagner’s TRISTAN UND ISOLDE, conducted by Asher Fisch. At the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she is a member of the ensemble, she can be heard in the title role of Carmen, as Preziosilla in LA FORZA DEL DESTINO, as Fenena in NABUCCO and as Rätselstimmung in ANTIKRIST. She also performs Wagner’s WESENDONCK-LIEDER with the Orchestra of the Deutsche Oper Berlin under Michele Spotti.

In the 2024/25 season, Kristina Stanek celebrated two major Wagnerian debuts: As Kundry in PARSIFAL at the opening premiere of the Glyndebourne Festival in a production by Jetske Mijnssen under the baton of Robin Ticciati, and as Brangäne in TRISTAN UND ISOLDE at the Grand Théâtre de Genève conducted by Marc Albrecht and directed by Michael Thalheimer. Further highlights of the season included her debut as Federica (LUISA MILLER) and her role reprise as Azucena (IL TROVATORE) at the Staatsoper Hamburg.

In the 2023/24 season she made her house debut as Carmen at the Staatsoper Stuttgart under Ariane Matiakh and performed in two new productions of IL TROVATORE: first as Azucena at the Staatsoper Hamburg, followed by another Azucena at the Staatsoper Stuttgart under Antonello Manacorda. She also returned to the Staatsoper Unter den Linden as 2nd Norn this time under Philippe Jordan in Tcherniakov’s RING cycle.

Kristina Stanek joined the Ensemble of the Staatsoper Hamburg in the 2020/21 season. Prior to that, she was an Ensemble member at the Theater Basel, the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, and Theater Trier. Ms. Stanek's recent operatic appearances have taken her to the Semperoper Dresden, Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Glyndebourne Festival, Staatsoper Stuttgart, the Ruhrtriennale, the Kulturpalast Dresden, and the Gstaad Menuhin Festival.

In 2018 SONY Classical released a CD with Ms. Stanek singing the alto solo in Beethoven’s SYMPHONY NO.9 with the Dresden Philharmonic under Michael Sanderling. In 2022 she received a nomination as SINGER OF THE YEAR in the esteemed magazine OPERNWELT for her portrayal of Princess Eboli (DON CARLOS) at the Theater Basel.
